A trip

“In the northern part of our region, the picturesque Polesiawrites photographer Ed Khitry from the Ukrainian Rovno – there is Europe’s longest narrow-gauge railway, affectionately nicknamed “the cuckoo” or “little train” by locals. Its construction began in 1895 and by 1905 already had several branches. But to date it has only one branch which is actually the only available mode of transport for a number of localities. The maximum speed of the train which runs once a day is 30 km/h. We traveled on it some 80 kilometers and then after a short hike we arrived to the wonderful Lake Khoromnoe, where we spent the night. Fabulous places, interesting and open people, crystal clean air. The lake’s water was so clear we could drink and cook soup and tea of it. This is how we made this photo travel. I thought it would be interesting to upload this brief photo report on the narrow-gauge railway.”

Well thought. Ed Khitry is primarily a professional wedding and studio photographer, so this theme was a vagary for him in a double sense. Or maybe not, because he photographs the railway passengers, the tired workers and the ever moving children with the same attention and sensitivity as the young couples radiating life in his other series. This trip takes you back to childhood. The train starts.
